5 Ways to Spark Your Self Glow This Winter

Even for me — someone from Scotland, I find the transition from hot & sunny Australian summers to cold & sunny Australian winters a bit of an interesting adjustment. I’m a HUGE fan of the heat, which is probably the result of not experiencing much of it while growing up in the North of Scotland. 🥶

One thing I have learned, however, is just how important it is to take care of your mind and body during the colder days and nights.

To spark your inner and outer glow, I thought I'd share my 5 top tips on how to elevate your self-care this winter.

1. Hydrate your skin:

Winter weather can be harsh on the skin, especially on those legs after shaving! Make sure to keep your skin hydrated by using a rich moisturiser, preferably one packed full of natural ingredients, and most importantly, don't forget to drink plenty of water.

If you struggle to drink the recommended 8 glasses of water a day, consider investing in a hydration-tracking water bottle like 8ADay Hydration Bottle

You can also add a few slices of lemon, mint, berries or other garden goodies to your water for extra flavour.

2. Stay active:

Exercise is not only beneficial for physical health but also helps improve your mood and combat those winter blues.

If the unpredictable weather is a bit of a turn-off, look out for indoor activities like yoga, dance or HIT classes.

I joined F45 (functional training) about a year ago. Their classes provide an easy-to-follow format that focuses on a 45-minute high-intensity workout.
What I love most about the class is that I can literally roll out of bed and arrive at the studio for a quick workout without much planning other than making sure I have my gym gear on the right way around. (embarrassingly, I once arrived at the gym with my t-shirt on backwards!) 🤦‍♀️

3. Boost your immune system:

While this might seem like a bit of a no-brainer, it’s worth highlighting the importance of supporting your immune system by eating a healthy nutritious diet, incorporating immune-boosting foods like citrus fruits and leafy greens, and taking necessary supplements. This can help you stave off colds and flu, especially at this time of year.

Alongside healthy lifestyle choices, such as proper nutrition, regular exercise, and good hygiene habits, meditation is also a great way to positively impact your immune system.

When we meditate, our body and mind enter a state of deep relaxation, reducing stress levels and promoting a sense of calmness.

Chronic stress can weaken the immune system, making us more susceptible to illnesses. By engaging in meditation, we activate the relaxation response, which counteracts the stress response.

This, in turn, helps to reduce the production of stress hormones and inflammatory markers that can negatively affect the immune system.

4. Maintain a positive self-care routine:

Set aside dedicated time for self-care activities such as taking relaxing baths, doing skincare rituals, reading, or indulging in hobbies that bring you joy.

My personal self-care routine includes my hour of power each morning. I’m a huge fan of meditation so I spend approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour on meditation, journaling and practising gratitude — It’s amazing the difference these simple practices can make to your day.

5. Stay socially connected:

Although winter can make it tempting to hibernate, it's good soul food to make an effort to stay connected with friends and family.

Carve out time to grab a coffee with a friend, call a member of your family or partake in a social activity.

Mike and I recently joined the public speaking group, Toastmasters. Not only does the organisation provide an interesting and inspiring way to meet people, but we get to up-skill in the art of public speaking in the process.

Let's Talk About Toe Hair

While toe hair might not be a topic that comes up in conversations very often, it's a totally (no pun intended) normal part of your body. Just like underarm hair or pubic hair, toe hair can appear on your fabulous feet.

Shaving Toe Hair

It's not uncommon for hair to grow on the tops of the toes. Hair can also emerge from the base of your toenails, on the joints where the toes bend, and in some cases, on the pads or undersides of the toes.

But did you know that toe hair growth and thickness can reveal surprising clues about your health?

Doctor Shruti Kakar, a Specialist Dermatologist explained to Cosmopolitan that toe hair is “perfectly normal. In fact, it is a sign of good blood circulation.”

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having toe hair, but if you are someone who prefers to keep your feet area fuzz-free, then fear not, there's nothing wrong with a quick trim, shave, wax or even laser those hairs away.

Keeping an eye on your toe hair can be important too! If you notice excessive or sudden changes in toe hair growth, it may indicate an underlying health condition.

If you notice unusually thick or dark hair growth, rapid hair loss, or any other concerning changes, it's advisable to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation.

Price Freeze This Winter!

When it comes to the costs of things, it seems like everything is on the rise. From coffee with friends to your daily groceries. We have been feeling the heat too with many aspects of our business, behind the scenes, such as postage, packaging, product and storage costs. All have been on a steady rise.

As our mission is to deliver premium products that are affordable and sustainability-focused, we're excited to announce that we will NOT be increasing our prices!

To maintain our commitment to affordability, we are making a small adjustment to our razor head recycling program. We will continue to offer free recycling for all used razor heads. However, we will no longer provide the free postage opt-in.

To continue to provide easy blade return and recycling for those who have saved their blades, we have introduced a purchasable pink mailer for razor head returns.

Our other sustainable initiatives, including sustainable compostable packaging, carbon offset delivery, green office energy and our contribution of 5% subscription sales towards reforestation projects, will remain unchanged.

Our dedication to delivering exceptional products and providing outstanding customer service remains unwavering. We continuously strive to enhance your experience with us, and we sincerely appreciate your support for the enduring positive impact that the Make My Shave community continues to make.
